Wayfinding has a new role to play: information, orientation and stress reduction

Madrid Airport has experienced an amazing transformation thanks to the opening of Terminal 4, a benchmark for international airports. This change made a deep transformation and update of existing terminals 1, 2 and 3 necessary. Wayfinding was defined as a critical element to upgrade service standards and airport experience.

Key insights

The stress levels at airports, due to strict controls and safety regulations, are increasing. Thus causing more distraction and customer disorientation. Wayfinding has a new role to play: information, orientation and stress reduction.

The creative solution focused on providing a satisfactory experience. With a full understanding and identification of airport users' needs and feelings, as well as critical points and spaces, we developed a full signage programme covering all possible flows around the airport.

The result is a new wayfinding system designed for all the airport users, that is recognized and valued as an effective tool by the Airport Management.
