The Brand Union worked on the packaging design of Ichitaro Bungei which was introduced by Justsystem in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Ichitaro.
The requirement when developing the design was to preserve the Japanese spirit of Ichitaro and to maintain the beauty of the Japanese language.
We needed to develop a sophisticated pack design with the concept of Japanese beauty. The goal of the new packaging was to create anticipation and excitement for customers when first handling the package.
The package has a red band (Justsystem’s corporate colour) as a 'Noshi' (ornament attached to gift) and a string which is tied on the red band, similar to a Japanese gift. The words “Ichitaro Bungei” are brush written on the package.
Hide Matsunaga, Creative Director, says, “The package form reflects the Japanese spirit and has a structure like a nesting box. Customers can enjoy not only the package but also the process to take the product in their hands. It is an artwork showcasing 'Japanese hospitality' rather than a package".
